Adrienne Willis is a woman with her life in chaos. She retreats to the small coastal town in the Outer Banks. She hopes to find the tranquility she so desperately needs. She has a wayward husband who has asked to come home and a teen-aged daughter who resents her every decision. Upon arrival, a major storm is forecast and a guest named Dr. Paul Flanner arrives. Paul is the only guest at the inn. He is facing his own crisis of conscience. With the storm closing in, the two turn to each other for comfort and, in one magical weekend, set in motion a life-changing romance that will resonate throughout the rest of their lives.

A touching love story with two good main actors.

The beautiful shoreside house has more "romance" than this clumsy film. Both actors try hard but the weak script doesn't add up. Also, it's hard to believe that given the storm warning level, intelligent people would choose to stay on and not evacuate. Note this was adapted by the romance writer of "The Notebook".

A bit contrived and cliche. But the underlying story is good. It would have helped more if the father and son, Drs. Paul Flanner and Mark Flanner, part of the story had been fleshed out more and it would have rounded out and given more depth to the film. Great actors doing as best as they could with a weak script. Interesting that James Franco as Dr. Mark Flanner is not credited neither in the rolling credits on screen nor in the full record for this DVD in the library catalog . . . Odd, unless it was considered a cameo appearance? But it wasn’t. It was a role with 3 to 4 scenes and not a mere walk on or one brief scene.

At first I thought they were going to stay together but anything that has to do with Nicholas Sparks is depressing. If there isn't some great calamity I guess he doesn't consider it a story.
Totally pathetic and I wouldn't recommend it. Don't even go near it. As regards his books .....

I was very disappointed in the movie. I read the book first and the movie isn't even close to the story line of the book.

Disappointing, even for the low regard I was holding it in before screening it. I wouldn't recommend, even to Nick Sparks fans.

Loved the house, the beach, and how Gere and Lane's wardrobes matched the house and the beach. Didn't love the acting or the screenplay, so I gave the movie a grudging 30 minutes then turned it off. Also didn't love the NO CHEMISTRY. C'mon Richard Gere! That's Diane Lane you got there. Do something with her!
