Obviously from the reviews, this is not an easy film to 'get' and watching it a second time (as I did when I saw it during its theatrical run) lets this fascinating and engrossing tale strike all the right chords. This is a favorite film for me.

The repeating of scenes over & over just got so old. Gave up on it.

Thanks to Jonathan Nolan's source material the short story (?) "Memento Mori", Christopher Nolan's direction, and Guy Pierce's acting, an underground masterpiece.

The construct of this film is of some interest - well described in infinite detail at "thisisbarry.com". Unfortunately it is directed by supreme hack/schlockmeister, Christopher Nolan. Unlike the Resnais/Robbe-Grillet movies "Last Year at Marienbad", "Je t'aime, Je t'aime" or "La Belle Captive" the premise is schlocked up and totally un-necessary contrivances are made to satisfy the Hollywood crowd (guilt over an adjuster claim, girl friend being offed.)
This was Nolan's second film so his proclivities were not yet well established. Consequently, this one is not nearly as bad as (say) Insomnia, Interstellar, or the vile Batsman flicks.

Doesn't matter how many times you watch it, this movie remains a puzzle....One of the master pieces of Christopher Nolan.

...This film was boring, boring, boring...the flashbacks and repeating of the same scenes became irritating....I believe a film with flashbacks must be balanced and directed carefully, like a really good cake recipe, you can't overdue the ingredients....

The puzzle-like nature of the scenes mirrors Leonard's own struggles to solve his wife's murder. Nolan's artistic decision to make the scenes confusing by playing the black and white scenes forward and the color scenes backward parallels Lenny's confusion and struggle to find clarity.

Disturbing in a sad way. I think this could be the way people with signs of dementia might feel. Short term memory loss. Again, very sad.

Amnesia, paranoia and post-it notes.

Are we supposed to believe this fellow remembered something long enough to get to a tattoo artist and have it tattooed onto his body? Too silly!!!

We all need mirrors to remind ourselves who we are. I'm no different.

I'm not a killer. I'm just someone who wanted to make things right. Can't I just let myself forget what you've told me? Can't I just let myself forget what you've made me do. You think I just want another puzzle to solve? Another John G. to look for? You're John G. So you can be my John G... Will I lie to myself to be happy? In your case Teddy... yes I will.

Natalie (of Leonard's wife): "Tell me about her again." Leonard Shelby: "...Why?" Natalie: "Because you like to remember her." Leonard Shelby: "She was beautiful... To me she was perfect." Natalie: "No. Don't just recite the words. Close your eyes... and *remember* her." Leonard Shelby (closes eyes): "...You can just feel the details... The bits and pieces you never bothered to put into words... And you can feel these extreme moments... even if you don't want to... You put these together and you get the feel of a person... Enough to know how much you miss them... and how much you hate the person who took them away..."

"I know what that's going to sound like when I knock on it. I know what that's going to feel like when I pick it up. See? Certainties. It's the kind of memory that you take for granted."

I have to believe in a world outside my own mind. I have to believe that my actions still have meaning… even if I can’t remember them. I have to believe that when my eyes are closed, the world’s still here.

(paraphrasing) "No, no, it's not amnesia. It's different. I remember everything up 'til the incident. I know all I knew before. I know all about myself. I just...can't remember anything new. Everything new I learn...fades. If we talk for too long, I'll forget how we started & next time I see you, I won't remember this conversation. I won't even know if we've met before."
