A dark novel filled with metaphors and a quest for self-identity and confronting the truth, no matter how painful. This one isn't quite what it seems, and it completely surprised me how much I ending up loving this little book.

This story takes you through a journey of a boys life. There are flashbacks from past to present. The reader is trying to figure out what happened to him. I did not like this book.

Me, while reading this book:

Oh, is he?
I think he is.
Wait. What?

Good book!

There are dark, dark secrets at the heart of this book. At the end of it, actually. The secrets drive Win toward self-destruction and drive readers compulsively onward toward that end--Win is both drawn to and terrified of his secrets; readers are compelled with anxious anticipation to keep reading non-stop, despite growing discomfort with each reveal. Something--possibly a number of somethings--haunts Win most terribly, making him an extreme person in all of his facets. Lonely, successful, arrogant, abrasive, obsessive, conquering, violent, and conflicted, he has a strong sense that he is a danger to himself and others. Yet he can't quite remember exactly why, only that he is rising toward a crescendo of revelations that will redefine and expose him. We ride that furious wave with him. The full unveiling of Win's secrets at the end might not be quite what readers are expecting, but they are all the more powerful--and disturbing--for it. And they ultimately, satisfyingly, lead toward hope. 4.5 stars.

A really harrowing, but very well written story. Definitely the kind to haunt you after you've finished reading.

I am both ever evolving and ever decaying.

From what I can tell, morality is a word. Nothing more. There're the things people do when others are watching and the things we do when they aren't.
