I'm a big fan of The Shinning (Stanley Kubrick, 1980). However, I know that the film has many problems, the main one is the adaptation (maybe some of the best material in the book didn't make it to the screen, or was changed into something else).

I watched Doctor Sleep (the director's cut) and I found it brilliant. As a film, it is very carefully made. As a Stephen King adaptation, it scared me, shocked me, and it will hunt me for a long time.

I sincerely think Doctor Sleep is a much better movie than The Shinning, and it is quite a surprise!

Good kinda sequel to the original Shining years later when Danny is a recovering alcoholic adult. The story though is really about the young teen girl and her shine.
Tells the story in the Stephen King's way but the movie really kicks it up a notch when the final showdown happens in Danny's old stomping ground, the Overlook Hotel. Really a nice touch.

Stephen King pornographer of violence against children.

Excellent movie! It's not really a pure horror film, more a kind supernatural drama with horror elements, but it's still great! Solid performances all around, but true stand-outs from Kyliegh Curran, Rebecca Ferguson and that kid who died in that one scene! Ewan Mcgregor is very easy to root for as well. Has some of the coolest visuals for "psychic battles" I've seen in a movie. It almost becomes a Jojo's Bizarre Adventures episode at points.

A typical Stephen King horror movie adaptation, well conceived and executed!
