This movie can be watched as a standalone, but having a little knowledge of the story/movie "The Shining" will help a lot. This horror is a little bit more on the fantasy side than true horror.

Pretty sound adaptation of the book. It's hard to see Ewan McGregor pulling off such a heavy roll, but he does so even with a spark of whimsey (just like Stephen King likes it).
The book was gracefully compacted into movie format, with so many subplots and recurring themes, that if you hadn't read the book, your experience is worthwhile.
Best watched at 2am on a windy night.

We stopped watching. Viewing children being tortured and killed is not entertaining to us. We know that in "real life" this happens, but when it's fiction it just seems sicker. We also quit watching "The Walking Dead" TV show because of this over-the-top sicko-ugliness.

What happens if your hold is ready but you can not pick it up due to the closure? Will the dates be adjusted?

I don't think that this film can beat the Shining which created many original memorial scenes and can capture you. However, this movie is better than other movies in super-powers genre and it has the potential to develop a series of movies.

I really enjoyed this one. I have not read the book, have only read very few of his works; more of his son's work in fact, but I'll have to read this one now. The director could have, should have been totally cowed picking up where Kubrick left off though it would seem, he wasn't. The cast was great, especially Rebecca Ferguson! Yow!

I read Stephen King's sequel to The Shining years ago and was pleased to see that it was made into this terrific film. It matched the novel and certainly provided a well-acted, colorful and suspenseful movie. Be prepared to be scared!

Good sequel, more superhero movie than horror. Well conceived and directed "shining" sequences. I would suggest watching both The Shining movie and mini-series before this.

I'm a big fan of The Shinning (Stanley Kubrick, 1980). However, I know that the film has many problems, the main one is the adaptation (maybe some of the best material in the book didn't make it to the screen, or was changed into something else).

I watched Doctor Sleep (the director's cut) and I found it brilliant. As a film, it is very carefully made. As a Stephen King adaptation, it scared me, shocked me, and it will hunt me for a long time.

I sincerely think Doctor Sleep is a much better movie than The Shinning, and it is quite a surprise!
