This movie is quite boring: it's slow-paced, and I lost interest at times.

Boring, enlivened only by the basketball scenes. Ben Affleck is better behind the camera. I'm giving it 3 stars only because of the effort the kids put into acting out their parts on and off the court.

We thought it was a fine movie a B-. Goes beyond just being an alcoholic, shows why a person who has gone through trauma in their life needs to find a good therapist to get their head on straight.

A very dramatic film which shows that anything good is possible with will power!

This movie features a former basketball star named Jack Cunningham. He has fallen from glory due to the many personal struggles he has been going through. In order to cope with life, he abuses alcohol and is on a path of self-destruction. However, one day he is given the opportunity to coach the struggling basketball team at his former highschool and must make a tough decision that may change his life for the better. What I liked about the movie was that it taught you a lesson about how people with the brightest futures can still go down the wrong path. It shows that all our decisions have consequences and we can only bounce back from our actions moving forward. The only thing I disliked about the movie was the large amount of explicit language that was used throughout the movie. I would recommend the movie to those who enjoy the drama genre, but not for young children since the movie is rated R. I personally rate this movie a 4.5 out of 5.

This was a really good movie.Ben Affleck did a great job.

Five stars for the acting and realistic depiction of tragedy, grief, and addiction in this basically sad drama. Especially loved the coaching and mentoring scenes. Moments of honest courage matter and make a difference to the lives in this story (as in real life). Personally I believe the coach will make it back but it will be in his own time in his own way. The movie could have been another hour longer for me. Ben Affleck has already proven his acting ability in his performance in "The Accountant" but his performance in this film is even better.
TIP: This DVD is available at the West Vancouver Library.

this was a tweener for me: is this a sports movie or a drama that has some basketball in it? pacing could've been zippier, and the language means it's not suitable for younger kids. happy i borrowed from the library instead of going to the theater, but i didn't dislike it
