Phenomenal movie-Well Done.

The CGI was good. The humanity was sad but true. If you got separated and the world is coming to an end you’re not going to find each other. If you have type 1 diabetes you’re not surviving without meds. The U.S. has their own bunkers.

Dumb disappointment. Almost worth watching just for an initial scene though - a tense social moment!

Disaster movies are some of my faves, so I was willing to forgive a lot of deficiencies. I think the most irritating thing to me is the plot point where main characters all get separated and spend most of the movie trying to reunite. Still, this movie held my interest right to the end. Acting and effects were pretty good. Overall, I enjoyed it.

Really stupid dialog, and acting. Think one cliche line after another. One cliche act after another. Had to turn it off after 30 minutes. Story is a good one, but script just stinks.

Yes, the science and realism aspects are terrible, but the human element was surprisingly engaging. Probably the most difficult part to suspend disbelief during was how everyone believed the new/government/scientists when they were told the comet's impact wouldn't be a big deal. LOL Shock and horror follows when a piece of it (big as a football field) destroys Miami. Also, it's like they borrowed by the movie 2012 in that the only shelter is not in the US. As if there are no bunkers in the US? Still, I found it very entertaining and enjoyed myself throughout. If you can't let go of incredible inaccuracies in the science and other aspects, then this is not the movie for you. If you can let go and just enjoy the action and drama, then I think you'll like it.

My wife liked this a lot more than I did. I'm pretty sure Gerard Butler being one of the leads had something to do with that because it certainly wasn't for the realism. It started off fine, but quickly went downhill as the plot unfolds. We literally go from scenes of interstate highways, choked with abandoned vehicles and rioting individuals, all being dramatically bombarded with hellfire from above, to quiet a country town with perfectly intact roads and quaint, fully energized houses, fully stocked stores, and seemingly unfazed by the carnage happening one county over. It only gets worse from there.

The saving grace for this film, however, is that if you can turn off your reality filter for a bit, the acting, story, and constant action will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Whether you like this movie or hate it depends on your ability to suspend any sense of credibility regarding what would happen if the earth was going to blow up in a few days, and also how a world-killing comet would do that. If you demand full credibility, then skip this dog of a movie. If, instead, you don't care WHY or HOW giant explosions are happening, you just dig the thrills and chills and highly dramatic special effects. Besides taking incredible liberties with the realities of a dinosaur-killing comet's behavior, it creates a lengthy series of problems that keep preventing the featured family from getting to the ONLY possible safe-haven on earth for "selected" US people necessary for the rebuilding of civilization. As for the technical errors in the plot, they jump from describing the comet as burning gases, then ice and rocks, then nuclear fueled. But the explosions depicted on earth (thousands of them) seem to be a combination of nuclear bombs AND gasoline fires 1,000 times bigger than any nuclear bomb. I suppose it's quite difficult to depict on film the actual effect of a giant mass impacting on earth. Fine, I accept their creative difficulties. But consider that earth spins a complete circle every 24 hours. The scientists that first predicted the comet would completely miss earth then predicted where and when the first "minor" impact would occur. The were way off in time and thus location. The error was off by DAYS, meaning they have NO CLUE when, and thus WHERE the main comet will impact. But that doesn't stop them from predicting the location and the time right down to the very second of earth-killing impact. Adding to the excitement, of course, is the expected mass panic, riots, hysteria, confusion, desperation, frustration, etc. one would expect if the earth was going to suffer extinction in a few days. Many viewers may rate it 5 stars.
