The Artist's Way

a Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity

I had this book checked out for three months but couldn’t finish reading it. The concepts of morning pages and the artist’s date are brilliant (the first couple chapters). After that, the book becomes boring, rambling, and repetitive. It’s also very dated. I expected the 25th anniversary to reflect life in this millennium but the author is still talking about listening to records and the radio. She also suggests the tool of reading deprivation. Sadly, I don’t think that would be deprivation for most people these days. No mention of what truly blocks artists in modern times - the constant distractions and short attention spans we have developed thanks to the internet, smartphones, social media, Netflix, etc. My suggestion for stuck artists: read the first few chapters, then return the book and check out “Bored and Brilliant “ and “Digital Minimalism”.
