This movie really lived up to the book - and you don't get to say that very often. Bernadette's character, in all its ticks and idiosyncrasies, is marvelously portrayed by Cate Blanchett. The family dynamic and other characters are well-rounded and really draw you into the story. On the surface, it's a depiction of a woman overrun with anxiety who puts her life on hold out of fear. Learning to acknowledge the scariest aspects of her life - career, marriage, motherhood - let her grow into the loving and creative person she truly is. It is such an interesting, tender, and moving narrative to see played out on the screen.
