I see very mixed reviews for this latest Jack Reacher tale. I have to confess that it seemed just a tad "off", and once the reader understands that Lee Child is listed for familiarity and association with Jack Reacher, and that Andrew Child penned this particular story, then it becomes a bit clearer. Yes, still the formula Jack Reacher - traveling with no destination in mind, stumbles into a stranger's mess, tough do-it-alone (almost) loner. Is there enough Jack Reacher under the pen of Andrew Child? In my opinion, yes. It's still Jack, maybe not 100% but enough to let me look forward to Andrew's next effort. After all, there was likely some pressure to "get it right" this first time. I expect when the dust settles our dear Jack Reacher will continue to satisfy our need to have the "underdog" (albeit a big dog) step up and do the right thing when confronted with the choice of take the next bus or stay and fight the good fight.
