Verrrrrry slow and boring

very weak story, but good acting. Many better movies to watch that are more believable.

Wynton Marsalis' Milesish contributions helped. Willem Dafoe brought what he brings. I liked John Huston better in Chinatown than Alec Baldwin here. Bruce Willis was dressed elegantly for his five minutes. The damsel in distress was…

Both of us thought this movie was very good. Seems like most cities over the years have had crooked police. But most are fine people with a difficult job. They deal with the scum of the earth, people that lie, cheat and steal.

Slow paced, but excellent.

The plot is kind of heavy and slow pace. The ending is good, acting is good, cinematography isn't bad so I give 3.5.

Loved this movie! The costumes are accurate for the period, and beautifully designed. The music is almost another character in the film. Beautifully done.

Outstanding film, especially Edward Norton’s acting and the gorgeous music. Best movie I’ve seen in a long time. Highly recommend.

Edward Norton plays his part well. Bruce Willis is around for most likely 5 minutes maximum. But personally, I found this movie a total waste of a night, I just did not get into it at all.

Pay attention. The title is explained... once. Edward Norton is excellent.

A slow start, but an intriguing film by the end. Norton wrote the adapted screenplay, directed, and starred in it - a job well done all around. By resetting the story in the 1950s, he gives a little breathing room from the news of today…

Good movie I think. Not the best ever but if I had paid to see it, I would not have been upset. I like noir style and I think this fits for sure. Good big-city political intrigue and some private eyes, a couple of dames, and a few…

Not a doubt in my mind that this is one of the best movies I'll see this year (2020)--and I see a lot of movies. When I realized--through end credits--that Ed Norton not only acted as lead character, but wrote and script and directed…

Somehow I think this could have been a better film. Some critics suggested that it was a poor man's Chinatown. I would suggest a very very poor man. I believe that this story could have produced a very good film, but the intensity,…

I've followed Ed Norton since he hit the box office with R. Gere. But this whole movie is a real stinker. Kept waiting for 'anything' to happen and it never did. Norton acts out the same Tourette's condition he used in the movie with…

I have to say this is a wonderful movie I've been wanting to see it for a long time. Watching this film I understand what its like having Tourette's Syndrome and fighting something every day that you feel you can't stop I mean it can feel…

Powerful detective chronicle!

Enjoyable but if you’re expecting the book it’s not. The main character is the same (played well by Edward Norton) and there are a few other connections but the story is unrelated to the book.

In this crime noir period piece, Norton portrays a private detective with Tourette's Syndrome during the construction boom in NYC, circa 1950s. Interesting script and well acted but somehow not as entertaining as expected considering the…

written directed and starring Norton. As usual, such vanity projects just don't work as well as if there were some restraint offered by team members. This could have been so much better.

This is a very good show, but, for a movie that comes off as a thriller, it clocks in way too long at nearly two-and-a-half hours. The villain of the piece, played by Alec Baldwin, is a version of real life Commissioner of Everything in…

Best movie I have ever seen Norton do. He should have gotten an award.

What an amazingly excellent film. It is certainly better than some of the Oscar nominations. This movie is "Rainman" meets "Chinatown" with a little "Maltese Falcon" thrown in. Never since Dustin Hoffman played the autistic savant has…

Absolutely must see movie. Edward Norton again proves to be most underrated talent in the modern cinematography - he wrote, produced, directed and starred in this incredible motion picture. He meticulously worked on this movie for almost…
